Lately I’ve felt sort of stuck. I’m in this transitional period of life between High school and college and in some ways between childhood and slowly becoming an adult. It’s been a time of reflection and rest and honestly I can’t believe it’s July already. It’s a time that results in a lot of waiting. Waiting for the next big step while quickly trying to process the last one. Waiting to see how things will turn out and what decisions will be made. There was period of time in this part of my life when I was quite honestly annoyed at all the waiting. I thought I was ready to go. Ready for the next chapter. But Jesus has slowly showed me how much I need this waiting period. It’s given me a second to breathe. To set goals and enjoy life, one step at a time.
I feel like sometimes that waiting periods in our lives so often discourage us. We see others in these busy seasons, full of success and excitement and in comparison our minds tell us that our waiting period isn’t good enough. We should be doing more. Though in reality, I think we need the waiting seasons. Sometimes life comes at us full speed ahead, so fast that we don’t even have time to process it. And sometimes it feels like you’ve been waiting for a year for the train you want to get on to arrive. Both are good, and both have the potential for us to learn so much. One isn’t better than the other. Because the truth is we all have busy and waiting seasons. And we can truthfully feel stuck in both of them.
I’ve realized that it can sometimes be easier to see God in the busy/exciting seasons. All these goals and joys coming to life or taking a turn we didn’t expect. But sometimes in our slower times, we look around and see God less than we did before or sometimes not at all. But lately I’ve been learning how Important it is to realize that God truly is in the waiting. Well the bigger truth is that he never leaves at all. But he doesn’t leave in the waiting even if we feel like he does. Gods in the time we get to spend with family and close friends. He’s in the restful days and long boring hours in front of a computer screen. He’s the joy you feel from your favorite song and the comfort that comes from a good hug. He’s holding your hand in the really tough moments and celebrating with you in the joyful ones. We have to be intentional about recognizing the good in our lives and seeing how God works through that. Even if that good seems small or hardly existent, he’s in it.
It’s my biggest comfort in the world knowing I’m never alone. Do I forget it sometimes? Yes I do. I think we all do. It’s easy to get caught up in the current of the world. The one that tells us what should be fulfilling and what’s good enough. But that current isn’t one you want to stay in for long, you’ll eventually get pulled under Into a mindset of unhappiness. But if we can swim away from that current the world lives in, and appreciate the moments where we’re just floating, not knowing where the waters will take us next, and really honestly taking in the world around us, I think God is so evidentially seen in that period of waiting. And when the time is right you’ll catch a wave and try to keep your balance as the crazy plan for your life unfolds. You’ll have arms outstretched and the Savior of the world holding your hand next to you, and no matter if you fall, or ride the wave onto the shore, he never let’s go.
All the love, Annie
